Dr Helen and Dr Nadeem Afzal are talking all about Reflux, Dr Nadeem Afzal is an Associate Professor at the University of Portsmouth and a Consultant Paediatric Gastroenterologist based in Southampton. Following his training in the London GI rotation and the completion of his doctorate at the University of London, he developed an interest in inflammatory gut and liver conditions, including allergy. He runs a joint Allergy-GI clinic six times a year at Southampton Children’s Hospital. With his overarching interest in translational research, he has been very focused on Eosinophilic Oesophagitis (EoE) and improving the quality of life for children affected by this condition in recent years.

Dr Afzal's team recently presented their first paediatric validation study using the string test as an alternative to endoscopy, with the findings presented in Milan at the ESPGHAN conference. Additionally, Dr Afzal has conducted a national survey on the understanding of paediatric EoE, which is soon to be published.
